Hollywog WiTouch Wireless TENS Unit

October 5th, 2012

Hollywog WiTouch Wireless TENS Unit FAQ’s

1. What is TENS?

TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) is a noninvasive, drug-free method of controlling pain by the transmission of electrical stimulation to the body’s nerve or muscle fibers through the skin.

2. How does TENS work to relieve pain?

Pain relief or suppression is achieved by:

Suppressing the transmission of pain in nerves (Gate Control Theory) and Increasing the discharge of the body’s endorphins, which reduces the sensitivity to pain in the central nervous system (Opiate Release Theory)

3. How does the WiTouch provide pain relief?

WiTouch’s exclusive and patented stimulation waveform incorporates BOTH clinical theories – Gate Control Theory and Opiate Release Theory – of TENS to provide pain relief. You may feel relief as soon as you start the device, and you may feel pain relief as long as 3-4 hours after use.

4. Can I use WiTouch if I am pregnant?

No. The safety of nerve stimulation has not been established during pregnancy; therefore do not use this device if you are pregnant, or suspect that you are pregnant

5. How long can I wear my WiTouch?

WiTouch can be worn all day. The device does not have to be removed between stimulation treatments.

6. Can I use the WiTouch on another body area besides my back?

No, WiTouch is designed specifically for the treatment of back pain. WiTouch was designed to specifically fit the back and will not fit other body areas to allow performance. WiTouch can be used on the lower back.

7. Can I use the WiTouch in hot and humid conditions?

Hot and humid conditions can affect the adhesion properties of the WiTouch gel pads, so care should be taken in such conditions. Heat and humidity will not affect the operation of the device.

8. Can I wear my WiTouch while sleeping?

No, WiTouch should not be worn while sleeping.

9. Can I wear my WiTouch while driving?

No, WiTouch should not be worn while driving, operating heavy machinery or any other activity in which electrical stimulation can put you at risk of injury.

10. Can I use WiTouch when I am working?

WiTouch can be worn at home or at the office, but it should not be worn in work settings in which heavy machinery is operated or any situation in which electrical stimulation can put you at risk of injury. WiTouch should not be worn during strenuous physical activity as this may affect the proper adhesion of the device.

11. Can I share my WiTouch with someone else?

WiTouch gel pads are single person use and should not be shared between people. The WiTouch device can be used by other people with proper cleaning of the device and new gel pads applied.

12. Can I use a WiTouch if I have a pacemaker or other medical implant?

No. Do not use this device if you have a cardiac pacemaker, implanted defibrillator, or other implanted metallic or electronic device. Such use could cause electric shock, burns, electrical interference, or death.

13. My WiTouch is not working when I press the remote.

The main device is OFF and should be turned ON. If you receive yellow blinks on the remote when the START button is pressed, the remote control is not able to communicate with the device. Note the main unit automatically shuts OFF after 2 hours of inactivity.

14. Why is the LED blinking yellow?

Change your batteries. The blinking yellow indicates low battery.

15. What if I lose my remote control?

WiTouch cannot be operated without the remote control, so you will need to order a replacement remote control.  Replacments can be ordered from Core Products and will include instructions on how to pair the new remote to your device. WiTouch Pro can be operated without a remote control, so you can continue using the device.

16. What kind of batteries does my WiTouch use?

The WiTouch device uses 2 AAA batteries. The remote control uses 1 CR2032 lithium coin battery

17. How often do I have to change the batteries in my WiTouch and remote?

The 2 AAA batteries in the WiTouch device will last for approximately 150 treatments, depending on the intensity.  The remote control CR2032 battery will last approximately 1 year.

18. How do I clean my WiTouch?

WiTouch should be gently wiped clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. All soap residue must be removed before use. DO NOT submerge or immerse the device in water or other liquids as it will damage the device.

19. How do I store my WiTouch?

WiTouch should be stored in the storage box included with your device. If the device is being stored for a short time between uses and the gel pads are still applied to the device, the green protective liners should be applied to the gel pads before storage. If the device will be stored for a long period of time, the 2 AAA batteries should be removed from the main device.

20. What is the warranty on the WiTouch?

The warranty is 1 year assuming normal wear and tear. (NOTE: WiTouch should not be submerged in water or worn while showering)

21. Do I have to use the Gel Pads?

Yes, the WiTouch device can ONLY be used with the gel pads designed specifically for WiTouch. Attempted use of WiTouch without WiTouch Gel Pads can result in skin irritation or burns.

22. Where can I get new WiTouch Gel Pads?

You can purchase new Gel Pads from the same location you purchased your WiTouch device. You can also check your local chiropractor, DME or call Core Products Customer Service at 800-365-3047.

23. Why are my gel pads not sticking?

Gel pads will stick for 3-5 applications on average. The number of applications depends on skin preparation and skin type. Excessive oil, moisturizers and perspiration will affect the gel pads’ ability to adhere properly. You should always clean the treatment area with soap and water before applying your WiTouch to ensure optimal adhesion.

24. How many times can I use the gel pads?

The number of uses you can obtain from gel pads will vary, primarily due to skin preparation. Each time WiTouch is removed from the back, dead skin cells are removed adhered to the gel pads.  Over time, the accumulation of this “skin cell debris” diminishes the gel pads’ ability to adhere. Insufficient skin preparation will also affect gel pad adhesion.

25. How often do I replace the gel pads on my WiTouch?

The gel pads should be replaced on your WiTouch when the adhesion diminishes. This will vary person to person and depending upon skin preparation, but 3-5 applications is typical.

26. Why can I see some of the “black” from the WiTouch electrodes on my fingers?

The black residue you may see on your fingers from handling the Hollywog WiTouch device is from the conductive carbon element within the electrodes. The residue is normal and can be wiped away.

Thera-Band Question and Answers

May 11th, 2012

How do the Theraband latex-free bands compare with the original latex bands?

The recently re-designed Thera-Band® Latex-Free Professional Resistance Bands were formulated to match the pull forces of our Latex Professional Resistance Bands.

Can Thera-Band bands be purchased powder free?

The powder is used to keep the product from sticking to itself during manufacturing. The powder will be removed with normal use, and is not necessary for proper functioning of the product. Thera-Band® Latex-Free bands, however, do not contain powder.

What is the shelf life of Thera-Band bands and tubing ?

When kept in a cool, dark environment, the bands and tubing should last for many years. However, use, exposure to temperature extremes, chlorine, and sunlight decrease the “shelf-life”.

How do I connect the bands or tubing for exercise?

Always secure the bands or tubing to a sturdy, non-movable object. The Thera-Band Door Anchor should be used to secure one end of the bands or tubing for exercise. It isn’t advisable to tie the exerciser to a door knob or to “close” them in a door; this leads to early breaking. The Thera-Band Exercise Handles and Assist can be used to grasp the exercisers. To connect to the legs or arms, use the Thera-Band Extremity Strap.

How do I clean the Thera-Band elastic bands or tubing?

Immerse the band or tube in fresh clean water in a sink or under a running faucet. Rub a small amount of mild hand soap over the wet band or tube and then rinse in fresh water. Lay flat to dry, or drape the band or tube over the back of a chair or similar object and allow to thoroughly dry. Once dry, rub a small amount of talcum, baby powder, corn starch, or similar powder over the surface of the band or tube to prevent sticking.

Biofreeze Singles on the go

The power of Biofreeze while on the go

Performance Health has expanded its Biofreeze® product line with the introduction of Biofreeze Pain Relieving Singles, the perfect complement to at-home and in-clinic Biofreeze applications. This innovative packaging provides the power of Biofreeze in an ultra portable, no mess application providing pain relief—anytime, anywhere. Simply snap open the small pouch, apply Biofreeze to the painful area and continue with daily activities. The new Biofreeze Pain Relieving Singles will be available July 1, 2011.

Three top benefits including:

  • Nothing on the hands.
  • Easy to dispose.
  • Fits anywhere.

“We are very excited to launch this truly innovative addition to our highly respected and effective Biofreeze product family,” stated Jeff Mathers, product manager for Performance Health. “Pain can strike at inconvenient times and inconvenient places, and it’s not always feasible for patients to carry our larger patient-sized Biofreeze products. We encourage hands-on health care practitioners to recommend Biofreeze Singles as a complement the patient-sized products so that patients are protected no matter where they go. This stamp-sized packet fits in a wallet or purse and provides immediate access to Biofreeze pain relief. Even when patients are on-the-go, they don’t have to wait to treat pain.”

Biofreeze Pain Reliever is the number one clinically-used and recommended topical analgesic. It delivers targeted pain relief with the benefits of cryotherapy (cold therapy). Doctors, therapists and patients are shifting toward topical analgesics and away from systemic pain relievers, which can affect the gastrointestinal tract, heart, kidneys and other organs, as well as cognition. Conversely, topical analgesics deliver targeted pain relief with low levels of systemic absorption, which may result in less risk for systemic toxicity and/or drug interaction.

Choosing an Chiropractic Adjusting Table

March 8th, 2011

Choosing an Adjusting Table

By Steve Keller

Choosing the right chiropractic equipment for your office can be very confusing.  What brands do I consider?  What features do I need?  Do certain options make sense?  Should I buy new or used?  The list can be endless.

An adjusting chiropractic table is the most important piece of equipment you will have in your office. It will be the main platform for the treatment of your patients. There are plenty of very good manufacturers of adjusting chiropractic tables on the market. Most make tables that fit a variety of techniques. Lloyd Table Company, Pivotal Health Solutions, Williams Healthcare, Hill Labs and Elite tables are a few of the major brands that currently make adjusting tables in a variety of models.  So how do you choose what you need?

Step 1. Make a list of the features you want on the Chiropractic table.

A lot of this will be determined by the techniques you currently practice and would like to learn in the future. Some features to consider are:

  • Hylo – this feature takes a patient from a standing position to a flat position.
  • Elevation, which will electrically vary the height of the table in order to perform different techniques on the same table or enable to doctors of different heights to effectively use one table.
  • Drops (manual or automatic) – a section of the table that can be cocked and dropped when a thrust is applied to aid or enhance the adjustment.
  • Flexion/distraction (manual or automatic) for treatment of the low back. This feature allows the pelvic section of the table to flex downward and extend outward to aid or enhance the adjustment and to help stretch out the low back
  • Chest breakaway—the chest piece breaks away in order to help facilitate the treatment of pregnant or obese patients.

One feature that I always suggest is the elevation feature. First, the cost of this feature is currently diminished because you can take advantage of the Section 44 handicapped access tax credit. This allows for a 50 percent tax credit to be taken off the purchase price of the table that includes this option. In many cases, this makes the final cost of the table less than the same table in a stationary format would cost.  Second, the elevation feature also allows for much flexibility. It allows for one table to be used by a variety of doctors. For example, a 5’ 10” doctor can treat a patient followed by a 6’ 4” doctor treating another patient by simply raising the height of the table to adjust to differing height of the doctor. In addition, you can perform a drop technique at the proper height, normally a lower height, and then increase the height to a higher height to perform a low-force technique or soft-tissue work. Elevation may be added or purchased on a variety of adjusting table models. It can be included on a drop table, a low-force technique table, a flexion/distraction table and so on.

Step 2. Consider different tables depending on your budget, experience, recommendations.

A lot of this may be determined by your experience and suggestions from others—what tables you are used to using in clinic, the tables your teachers suggest, or the tables your associates like.

A major factor will also be budget. Adjusting tables will vary greatly in price—from a flat stationary table for under $500 to a Lloyd Ultimate table with virtually every possible feature available for more than $20,000.

Work on as many different tables as possible to find the features that best fit you. For example, drops will vary in speed and mechanics; some people will only want manual flexion and others will want the automatic feature.

The main thing to remember is that just because it works best for one doctor does not mean it will work best for you. Try not to purchase a table without working on it. Just because it has a look that you like does not mean it will operate in a manner that suits you. In addition, utilize the knowledge of the people you trust who have purchased and used the tables.

Step 3. Consider new versus used Chiropractic tables.

To buy a new or used Chiropractic table is probably the most asked question when shopping for a table. Again, this comes down to budget.  If you are running a successful practice, have the funds or could use the tax write-offs, then new table is definitely the preference. If you are starting up a new practice, used is an option.

The problem when purchasing used table is you don’t ever really know how much time is left for practical use of the table. Tables have many different mechanical features, such as electric motors, hydraulics, mechanical mechanisms like drops. All of these things break and wear out, and they can be very expensive to fix, so many times the old adage “If it looks too good to be true, it probably is” often applies.

The best alternative when purchasing a used table is to purchase a refurbished table from a reputable dealer. A reputable dealer will purchase the used tables, strip them down and then rebuild them to your specifications; replace and update mechanics, electrical and hydraulics; and then paint, re-foam and recover in your desired materials. You will also receive some warranty on these tables. You can usually save 40 to 60 percent on a refurbished table over the purchase of a similar new table.

Choosing a Chiropractic Table Checklist

When choosing a table, follow a few easy guidelines:

  • Make a list of techniques you want to use and features you want on your table.
  • Work on as many different tables as possible and talk to doctors that practice similar techniques to get their opinions on likes and dislikes of tables and what features they deem important.
  • Do not purchase a type of table that you have never worked on or the table that has not been recommended by an associate you trust.
  • When buying a used table, be careful. Remember the old adage: “If it looks too good to be true, then it probably is.”
  • A refurbished table is a good alternative and can save you 40 to 60 percent over a similar new table.
  • Buy from a reputable dealer.

CorFit Advantage Support

February 18th, 2011

Achieve superior truncal compression with less effort!

The New CorFit Advantage utilizes the PowerWrap lacing system to provide superior compression with less effort. The lacing system creates a mechanical advantage, reducing the amount of force required to properly tension the support. Two independent pulls provide focused compression on the lumbar region, sacral region, or both. The CorFit Advantage allows increased spinal flexion when the top portion of the support is tensioned more than the bottom portion as well as increased spinal extension when these tensions are reversed.

“The lacing system on the CorFit Advantage allows very weak or injured patients to easily tighten or adjust this support without overextension.” – Philip Mattison, CEO, Core Products International, Inc.

Fitting your patient with a Corfit Advantage support

Before placing the support on your patient’s waist, you first want to loosen the support by reattaching the side pulls to the edges of the hook and loop closure on the body of the belt. Then, to ensure the support is placed properly, align the back panel’s bottom edge with the distal sacrum. Once the support is in place, tighten it using the PowerWrap lacing system pulls. The top pull will increase compression to the lumbar region and the bottom pull will increase compression to the sacral region. For a better fit, re-tension the support while the patient is lying on the back with their feet on the floor. This adjustment allows the trunk to decompress without downward pressure from internal organs.

Sizing

All CorFit supports are designed to be proportional in height and width. Taller supports are designed to fit larger patients and shorter supports are designed for petites and children. The proportional sizing helps reduce inventory in clinics while maintaining the versatility needed to fit most patients.

Size Support Height Fits Hips
Small 6” 27” – 35”
Regular 8” 32” – 43”
X-Large 9” 40” – 52”
XX-Large 10” 56” – 58”
